Stairs take a beating. They're one of the highest-traffic spots in any home, and over time that really shows - worn treads, fraying edges, or bare wood that just looks rough. That's exactly the kind of problem we were solving here. Two separate staircases, both needing a fresh start.
We went with Berber carpet for this one, and honestly it was the right call. Berber is tough. The looped construction holds up to constant foot traffic without matting down the way softer pile carpets can. It also cleans up easily, which matters a lot on stairs where dirt and debris tend to collect step by step. The neutral gray tone we installed here works with just about any interior style - not too light, not too dark.
Stair installations are more involved than a standard room. Every tread and riser has to be cut and fit individually, wrapped cleanly around the nose of each step, and secured so nothing shifts or bunches underfoot. There's no hiding sloppy work on stairs - you see every single step every time you walk up or down. So we take our time and do it right.
The difference is noticeable. What started as raw, worn-down subfloor steps ended up with a clean, consistent finish across both staircases. The carpet wraps neatly over each step nose and sits flush against the risers, giving the whole staircase a polished, finished look. It also adds real comfort - softer underfoot and quieter with every step. Two staircases, one cohesive result.
Small upgrades like this genuinely change how a home feels day to day. You don't have to be doing a full remodel to make a real impact. Sometimes it's just the stairs.
